Women in Sustainable Mining & Enviromental Stewardship (WiSMES)
"Empowering Women. Restoring the Earth. Building Prosperity."
In Migori County, women contribute significantly to artisanal mining yet earn less, work in unsafe conditions, and are underrepresented in ownership and decision-making. WiSMES transforms these challenges into women-led, environmentally responsible enterprise.
Women In Responsible Mining
Empowers women through training, leadership development, safer mining practices, access to finance and markets, and advocacy for gender equality in mining sector.
Green Gold Initiative
It supports artisanal and small-scale miners by encouraging mercury-free gold extraction, improving safety, protecting the environment, and helping miners access better markets.
Women-Owned Mining Enterprises
Its goal is to empower women to own, manage, and grow successful mining businesses while promoting gender equality and economic inclusion.
Climate Smart Communities
Helps miners adopt environmentally friendly technologies, improve resource efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and create green jobs while building climate resilience.
Youth Innovation
Empowers young people to develop innovative ideas, entrepreneurship skills, and sustainable businesses through training, mentorship, technology, and business development support.
Financial Inclusion
Improves access to financial services such as savings, credit, insurance, and digital payments, enabling individuals and businesses to grow, invest, and participate fully in the economy.

One Woman Miner = Ten Trees. Each participating woman commits to planting and nurturing ten indigenous trees annually — 500 women × 10 trees = 5,000 trees planted every year, survival monitored over time.
